Splunk has recently updated their offering for Splunk Pledge. As UConn is a member of Splunk Pledge, UConn receives select free training from Splunk. Below is the summary of the free trainings that anyone at the University may receive. Tech Kits are part of the walk-in service provided by OPIM Innovate. There are three levels of difficulty meant for different users and their experience with the different technologies. Many of the Tech Kits build off each other as you progress.


Introducing Splunk

Length: 30 - 60 Minutes

Description: Over the last decade, there has been exponential growth in machine data, due in part to the rise of IoT devices. Now, in the “Big Data” era, Splunk is used for searching, monitoring, analyzing, and visualizing machine-generated big data. This tech kit provides an overview of the Splunk  interface and reviews Splunk Fundamentals 1 training.

*Ensure you complete Splunk Fundamentals 1 as a prerequisite for Splunk Beginner.


Generating Dashboard Visualizations in Splunk

Length: 30 - 60 Minutes

Description: Building upon Splunk Beginner, this tech kit provides an avenue to test and further deepen skills gained. With an emphasis on statistical analysis, it reviews basic searching commands and principles, using fields in searching, leveraging transforming commands, and aggregating data visualizations to create dashboards.

*Ensure you complete Splunk Fundamentals 1 as a prerequisite for Splunk Intermediate.


Validating the Power of Statistical Analysis in Splunk

Length: 30 - 60 Minutes

Description: Splunk Advanced examines more advanced statistical analysis concepts. These include outlier detection principles, correlation matrices, aggregate functions, T-tests, 3D bubble charts, macros, the eval command, data models, and more. It is designed as a review of the Splunk Fundamentals 2 training.

*Ensure you complete Splunk Fundamentals 1 and Splunk Fundamentals 2 as a prerequisite.



Splunk 7.2.1

With Splunk Enterprise, you can search, analyze, and visualize data derived from your IT infrastructure. The data is taken from websites, applications, devices, sensors, etc. Splunk Enterprise then analyzes your data stream into individual events for your viewing and searching purposes.
