Hydroponics

Hydroponics includes any method of growing produce without soil. Hydroponics uses water mixed with fertilizer to deliver water and nutrients directly to the roots of plants. This method not only saves water, but it can produce more nutritious produce at a faster pace than traditional growing practices.

Tech Kits

Tech Kits are part of the walk-in service provided by OPIM Innovate. There are three levels of difficulty meant for different users and their experience with the different technologies. Many of the Tech Kits build off each other as you progress.

Beginner

Hydroponic Grow Simulator

Length: 30 Minutes

Description: Hydroponics is a method for growing plants without the use of soil. The actual use of hydroponics takes weeks to cultivate. In this activity, you will create a hydroponic system and "see" your plants grow through the use of a simulator.

Intermediate

Personal Herb Gardens

Length: 45 Minutes

Hydroponic Harvest

Length: 45 Minutes

Description: Hydroponics is a method for growing plants without the use of soil. In addition to its other benefits, hydroponics also has the advantage of multiple harvests. Due to the unique way of growing plants, a hydroponic plant can be harvested and regrown multiple times within a "season". In this activity, students will learn how to plan out their harvests and how to harvest the plants in a way that will allow them to regrow.
