Overview
Can you 3D model the strongest bridge? In OPIM Innovate's 3D printing competition, participants will submit a unique bridge design to support the maximum weight possible over a 3 inch gap. Submit an STL file of your design and we will print it for you!
Rules
Participants will submit a unique bridge design to support the maximum weight possible over a 3 inch gap.
Details
- The slicer settings will remain on their defaults.
- 10% infill density
- Grid infill pattern
- 2 Shells
- All prints must be completed in the lab to ensure the proper aforementioned slicer settings.
- No outside prints will be able to compete.
- No additional parts may be added to the print.
- Prints must be able to be completed in less than 5 hours.
- Prints will be tested until failure.
- The bridge must provide support over a 3-inch gap, but not extend past 5-inches.
- The testing apparatus will have two 1-inch cubes on either side of the 3-inch gap that the bridge must be able to stand on.
- Width must not exceed 1.5-inches.
- The cubes are only 1-inch wide but some overhang is allowed.
- Height must not exceed 4-inches.
- The force will be applied to the center of the bridge by a triangular prism with approximate dimensions of 1-inch x 1-inch x 1-inch.
